My latest Addiction is Swoon! The Swoonblock by Camille Roskelly is beautiful, easy to sew and BIG. What I like about big Blocks is that you don't need many to make a huge Quilt. This one is planned to cover our King-Size Bed!

So three are finished and I really love the look of the grey Backgrounds!

I can't wait to show you more of these!!

and this will become the fourth Block

Rainy Sunday Morning - Ein verregneter Sonntagmorgen

Yesterday evening it finally rained. After a long period of dryness and heat the Weather in Munich finally cooled down to 20 something degrees Celcius and I am able to breathe again.
What a perfect time to do some sewing.
Last night I finished Quilting the Big and Bold Quilt after getting the pieces together at one of our Munich Modern Quilters Meetings. I name it "Juicy Picknick Sampler"

Now all I have to do is sit and bind

And since the Sewing Machine was still on the dining-tabel, I decided to put together another Quilt I had started recently. It is a strip-pieced triangle quilt, which I would name "Marine Cones" for the Moda Jelly Roll I used has a Marine-Theme on it.
Well, and a few days ago I finished another Pre-Cut Quilt from a moda Layer Cake.
I liked the little "Framed Quilt" so much, that I wanted to make a bigger Quilt from the same Pattern by Camille Roskelley.
So after my sewing was done this morning, the sky cleared and I took the chance and took a quick picture of the two finished tops.

What can I say! I had a great morning, and I just LOVE getting things done.

Now I got to go and look out for backings and decide on the quilting for the two tops. Any suggestions? Would love to get some inspiration!

I hope you had a great weekend, too! With or without rain!

Was soll ich sagen!

Trotz Regen :-)

Standing still - Stillstand

We are enjoying the most wonderful vacation in southern Tuscany, at Monte Argentario!

The house we live in is a gorgeous property with a backyard and two terasses! The kids have plenty of room and we can actually relax!

The hand sewn and hand quilted pillow made me smile the moment we arrived! Quilters are everywhere and at that point, I knew I would love this place!

Sure will come back some day!

So many WIP-Pieces

Hi out there!

Today is the last day before I go on a 2 Week Vacation to southern Tuscany. The Last day where I will actually be able to work on my Blog Post, and maybe-maybe get some sewing done later today (all depending on the kids' mood ;-) before we go on the long journey.

I really want to finish Quilting "Fresh" and put the binding on, so I can finish hand-Sewing the binding during my time in Tuscany. I'm dreaming of even finishing the Quilting of the Houndstoothquilt, but that will stay, just a dream!

Why do I even stress about it? Well, I want to finish a few projects, because on the Weekend of October 11-12, I get the chance to present my Quilts at Kultüren. Kultüren is a Connection of a few Artists and Designers who will present themselves during an exhibition in Munichs City District Neuhausen.

My Quilting-Group Munich Modern Quilters took the Chance to exhibit our Quilts at the Show! Our Quilts will be exhibited in the beautiful Stephanus-Church, where we hold our Meetings every month to sew together!

I'm very excited and happy to be a part of the show and since I'm the Rookie in the Group, I don't have that many Quilts to show of. That's why I DO stress myself a little!

So let me go and finish these up!

I'm linking up with WIP Wednesday at freshlypieced!

My "Fresh" Quilt, by a pattern of Camille Roskelly
only needs about half an hour to be finished quilting!

And by the way: I have started packing, too!

Sunday Stash #03 Bilingual-Premier!

My friend Andrea from Munich Modern Quilters has opened a quilt-shop in Frankfurt. It is in lovely "Brückenviertel" a creative little hood close to the city center on the other side of the bridge! The shop's name is Quiltmanufaktur and Andrea is writing two awesome blogs - one for herself and her business and one for the German Bernina-Community! She is such a sweetheart and I was very sad when she moved back to Frankfurt! Still she tries to come to our Sunday Meetings of MMQ! Thanks Andrea you are such an enrichment to our group!

My Inlaws live close to Frankfurt, so I actually got a chance to visit her damn cute shop past weekend! Oh how I love it and I would go there every weekend if it was in Munich!

And here are the awesome goodies I bought at Quiltmanufaktur, my Sunday Stash #03:

I love the green toil de jouy style Fabric! I might use it as the backing for the jelly roll. Tula Pink is a star, no words! Obviously I'm sticking to my love to purple! The vehicle fabric just spoke to me because my newborn nephew needs something boyish, since he was claimed to be a girl for 36 weeks, and got a purple (what else) crochet blanket from me (see post below).

Andrea only sells fabric she personally likes! Good thing we have the same taste! I know exactly what I'm gonna make of that beautiful Jelly Roll that she puts together herself!

Framed Donkeys in Rainboots

Right now the weather is pretty shitty over here. After a very springy time suddenly it got cold, wet and at our house, right behind the forest, we even got a little bit of snow! How frustrating! I am so tired of the wet and cold weather! I can't even get myself to the sewing machine. Well, all those wet boots and mud keeps me busy with housholding, too.

Before the ugly weather came back, I managed to take some nice pics of my "Framed" Quilt. It is a Design by Camille Roskelley from her Book Simply Retro

I love how the Quilt turned out! Thank you again Sternwerfer for giving me that cute fabric bundle. There was more in the bundle and I will actually make another one in pink :-)

So back to swiping floors :-P

And you go on and
Happy Crafting

I
This time I made a handwritten Label with a permanent fabric marker. I'll have labels printed soon though!

My Entry for the Pantone Quilt Challenge

Hello everybody!
As I have blogged about in my last post,
I am participating at the Pantone Quilt Challenge with this quilt:

This is my Entry for "just the top" named "coralstar"
"Coralstar" was inspired by the colors of the sunrise at the caribbean sea.
In my case that was Jan Thiel Beach in beautiful Curaçao, where I visited with my husband in 2006.
It finishes 40"x40" and I am entering it in the category "just the top".
Really only because I am afraid that I might not finish on time!

For my Radiant Orchid Quilt, I chose the suggested Kona Thistle, because I am in a spring mood
and the color reminded me of that particular sunset! I know it's not as radiantly blasting out
of the quilt like in others, that I saw in the Flickr group,
but I like the softness an purity of my color selection!

I will quilt "coralstar" soon - I already have a good picture of what I wanna do
(thinking of waves in the Aqua and pointing out the stars with a dot to dot technique,
or maybe try out this tutorial on circle quilting).

I will keep you posted on the progress and to you, wherever you are and whatever you're working on

Happy Crafting

yep, thats me, swimming with dolphins at the most awesome Dolphin Academy in Curaçao

Back again

Hello out there! I'm back to quilting.

Life came between me and my hobby* and I am very sorry to not having posted for such a long long time. I did do some sewing and finished the top of my houndstooth quilt that I started at one of our munich modern quilters meetings.
my houndsthooth project is finished piecing

I decided to show you my recent project though: The Bloom Bloom Pow Quilt from the Quiltalong by Lee of freshlypieced. When I made the quilt, I had a specific fabric in mind for the backing. Unfortunately, it wasn't available anymore, so I kinda waited and waited and so the top just lay around and became an UFO instead of a quilt :-(

After thinking about the backing for the houndstooth, I had the idea for the Bloom Backing.Yeah! Finally. So after all, this one will be my first finished quilt this year. Not quite yet, though.

This is the backing I chose.

I would like to take advantage of this WIP Wednesday, to show you how I put a border on this triangle quilt, that naturally finished in an angled border after piecing. I know, leaving the angles is kind of a trend, but I honestly don't like the look of it at all. So when I went into my quiltshop (thanks to the lady at Quilt et Textilkunst for her great advices) to buy the backing, The lady there told me that it would be such a shame to just cut the angles off, for all the work I had with them. SO TRUE!!!

Well, more work ahead, I put some y-seam corneres on, to get a strait quilt! Here you go, that's how I did it:

Remember this top? Seems like forever that I started the quiltalong by freshlypieced. It was so much fun!!

For the border, I made a template of one corner, which I transfered to freezerpaper and cut it on the fold

I used the "add a quarter ruler" to cut out my border pieces. I needed ten, plus 2 halfs

From left to right: I marked 1/4 from the corner on both, the top and the borderpiece and stabilized it with a pin

From the center out I sewed a quarter inch seam all the way down. I pinned the center again on the same hole and sew down the other side. Perfect! (honestly: not all of the pieces look like this one LOL)

There you go! All petals are safed

so that's my WIP right now! Quilting the Quilt. You can see my sketches of the planed quilting on the wall

I've got about 1/3 finished. Hope to show you the finished quilt next week
Well, that was my WIPs for this week! I will try to post more frequently! Until the next post I hope you have fun with your own projects and
Happy Crafting!

*I have been thinking a lot about if a Blog is the right place to talk about my privacy. After all, this is kind of a diary. And although this may not have to do anything with quilting, I have the urge to tell you that after suffering cancer my dad died December 5th last year, only 11 years after my Mom died of cancer.I had made him this quilt last year. Unfortunatly it will not comfort him anymore.

Wicked Sunday Stash #02

Welcome to my second Sunday Stash post. As I said before, I hardly ever have something to say about the fabric I buy (because I usually pick pink). This little stash though was bought for a reason which needs to be shared :-)
My good friend from Canada is pregnant with her second baby and the due date would be oct 31st. So what do YOU think I'm making from this stash? Take your guesses!

awefully cute Halloween Fabric by Riley Blake!

After being on summer vacation and not sewing for two weeks I was very happy to go to the Munich Modern Quilters Meeting a week ago! I enjoyed it a lot! These girls are wonderful! Quilters are wonderful people! We talked, sewed, talked, drank coffee and ate cake, sewed and talked. Thank you so much for letting me be part of this lovely group! Claudia brought some fabric to give away and here is part of the the backing she wanted to get rid of! I love it! The pink one will actually be used in my Log Cabin Quilt below. It needs another row to be my prefered size, so I need additional fabric to finish it!
I love the fabrics and can't wait to use them! Thank you so much Claudia

one more row and I can finally put this top together!

I'm linking up with Sunday Stash @ Heidi's Fabric Mutt
Go ahead and share your latest addition to your stash, too!

Happy Crafting!

Short Trip

It seems like my last post has been a year ago, so much has happend!

I had planned to show you an update on my Bloom Bloom Pow! Quilt, which is a finished Top by now and also several projects that I have started. Like, "whatever happend to my first project".. well I ripped it apart to join a Block of the Month.

Finished Bloom Bloom Pow! Quilt Top

Recognize these Fabrics? Here a few of my blocks from the BOM. I'll put on more pictures soon

Also I have tried to sew my first garment. A beautiful blouse by Christine Haynes. I enrolled at craftsy for a few Projects and totally love the platform! You get personal guidance by the online teacher. So I made a testpiece and it does not fit well, so Christine informed me about adjusting the pattern to a mixed size. Awesome. I hope I can start the blouse with the awesome Liberty of London Fabric that I bought soon enough.

The Neck and Shoulders, also the bust are way to big! So I'll make a muslin 2 sizes smaller and just adjust the waist and length, which were just fine. Although this is Ikea Fabric and quite cheap, I like the look of the blouse. It's kinda cute..
One of these Fabrics will become the Blouse. I like the left one a lot, which is a Liberty of London Fabric.

I'm not going to talk much about my bags, although I had a lot of fun sewing them. I seriously thought it would be a lot more difficult! So I made myself a large cosmetic bag for our oversea trip. My old one just was never big anough. Check out my flickr account for more photos!

This is the Bag with little pouch for make up

Now what I really want to talk about in this post is my recent trip to California! Yes! It was awesome. My husband was on a business trip and I got to join him! How cool is that? So we left the kids with the grandparents and flew over the ocean.
Wonderful view of the Golden Gate. Just love the colors

Besides visiting friends and having a great time with my husband I really enjoyed the time with myself. Once we arrived in San Francisco I strolled around town, the Pier and took a boat trip, visited museums and, what else? I did some shopping:

I visited the awesome BRITEX Fabrics store at uUnion Square, which was amazing. And, after a Daytrip to San Jose, visiting my Sister in Law and my niece there, I drove by this cool Quilt Shop in Milpitas called "The intrepid Thread". Someone from the Modern Quilt Guild refered to the store, after I asked for a modern Shop in the Bay Area! It was small but beautiful. The owner, Julie was wonderful and I left the store with a smile and a pile of fabric!
All of my Quilting-related Shopping items :-)))

One of the highlights of the trip though, was meeting up with my host family in LA and handing my Host Mom the new Block for our Quilt. I totally forgot to take a picture of her with the block. I wanted to, but I just forgot under excitement. So you'll have to put up with this picture of all the blocks.

My latest Block in the front is called "Card Trick", Cheryl's latest Block is the one next to the Flower Block

Well, that was a lot of projects. I'm so sorry I haven't posted for such a long time. But I had the best time over in the States. Sometimes you have to go far to appreciate home. Coming back I reallized how blessed we are and how beautiful our home is. The other day I went downtown Munich and strolled over the Market and had that "Home" Feeling. To me Munich is the best place on earth. The Lakes, the Alps, the Forests and best of all our Beergardens, and the wonderfull traditions.

The German Quilting Community has started a Quilt-Along. It's Called "Landmädel QAL" and is based on the "Farmer's Wife" Quilt Blocks. Since I am going to join in soon, I have decided to make this Quilt Along from Bavarian "Dirndl" Fabric, which I have used in the Scrappy Heart Block (see picture above) before and really liked the idea. So this time the inspiration didn't come from the trip over sea, but from coming back home!

Summer has finally arrived over here. I will definately try to be more frequent with my posts.
I hope you enjoy the summer as well! But still...

Happy Crafting

Block swapping update

I've received a new block from my US mom! It is a gorgeous star with a flower print fabric, that is still in tone with the blues and I absolutely think it fits in very well.

So now I can reveal the block I designed for February:
I called it the "Bavarian scrappy heart block" because it is made of typical Bavarian prints. And of course it is a Valentine :-)

I used up the fabric from the first Block. Secondly I used a Dirndl-Fabric. A Dirndl is a typical Bavarian Dress typically made of this style of fabric.

Since she had started to use up fabric from her clothes, I loved the idea and used this: The plaid fabric is from a traditional Blouse I was wearing for Oktoberfest, when I was pregnant and nursing. I wont wear it anymore and it wasn't in a good condition anyhow, so I thought this would be great Fabric to use for the Block!

With this block I sent her photos of myself, wearing the Blouse. Funny to see the photo and then the quilt-block.

I love this Block and will someday make a bavarian quilt of it! Maybe for this year's Oktoberfest? If I find the time! It would make the most beautiful Oktoberfest Logo, don't you think? Two years ago they had a "cross-stich" design . Why not make a quilt design? Unfortunately they already picked the new logo . Also you need to be invited to join the contest. I know cause I was invited to make a design a few years ago. Mine didn't get picked :-(

So my US Mom also had the lovely idea to send each other the patterns of the blocks we made, so I did two sketches to go with the April Block, that I just sent over the sea. I can't reveal it now, for it's a surprise, but once it's there, I'll show you my sketches. The next block is cute, too, but I'm gonna keep my mouth shut!

Scrappy Heart Block

The torn blouse

So that's me in the blouse. Now you know how I look like! :-) Well, what I looked like two years ago!

The 3 finished Blocks together

This is the Beautiful Star from Mom. Spring-Time! (Sorry about the strong yellow in this pic)

Now I'm getting more and more excited about my quilting workshop on upcoming Saturday. I bought fabric and everything and really can't wait to meet my students :-)

Next post will be soon about my new Quilt Along I have started. You might have noticed that I have put on the Button! Until then

Happy Crafting!

These are the flyers to my Workshop upcoming Saturday! I'm so excited!!
