Sunday Stash #03 Bilingual-Premier!

My friend Andrea from Munich Modern Quilters has opened a quilt-shop in Frankfurt. It is in lovely "Brückenviertel" a creative little hood close to the city center on the other side of the bridge! The shop's name is Quiltmanufaktur and Andrea is writing two awesome blogs - one for herself and her business and one for the German Bernina-Community! She is such a sweetheart and I was very sad when she moved back to Frankfurt! Still she tries to come to our Sunday Meetings of MMQ! Thanks Andrea you are such an enrichment to our group!

My Inlaws live close to Frankfurt, so I actually got a chance to visit her damn cute shop past weekend! Oh how I love it and I would go there every weekend if it was in Munich!

And here are the awesome goodies I bought at Quiltmanufaktur, my Sunday Stash #03:

I love the green toil de jouy style Fabric! I might use it as the backing for the jelly roll. Tula Pink is a star, no words! Obviously I'm sticking to my love to purple! The vehicle fabric just spoke to me because my newborn nephew needs something boyish, since he was claimed to be a girl for 36 weeks, and got a purple (what else) crochet blanket from me (see post below).

Meine Freundin Andrea von den Munich Modern Quilters, hat einen Quilt-Laden in Frankfurt eröffnet! Er liegt im wunderschönen Brückenviertel, ganz nah am Zentrum auf der anderen Main-Seite! Der Laden heißt Quiltmanufaktur und Andrea schreibt für zwei großartige Blogs - ihren eigenen, rund um ihre Quilts und ihr Business, sowie für den deutschen Bernina-Blog! Sie ist einfach ein Schatz und ich war wirklich traurig als sie zurück nach Frankfurt gezogen ist. Trotzdem versucht sie an Sonntagen zu unseren MMQ-Treffen zu kommen! Danke Andrea! Du bist eine Bereicherung für unsere Gruppe!

Meine Schwiegerleut' wohnen in der Nähe von Frankfurt und so hatte ich vergangenes Wochenende die Möglichkeit sie in ihrem Laden zu besuchen! Oh Mann wie ich diesen Laden Liebe! Wäre er in München wäre ich jedes Wochenende dort!

Und hier meine Stash-Erweiterung aus der Quiltmanufaktur! Mein Sunday Stash #03:

Ich liebe den grünen Toil de Jouy-mäßigen Stoff! Ich glaub den nehmt ich als Backing für den  Quilt aus der Jelly Roll. Tula Pink braucht keine Worte, sie ist ein Star! Und offensichtlich kann ich meinen Hang zu Lila nicht verbergen! Der Auto Stoff hat mich deshalb angesprochen, weil mein neugeborener Neffe unbedingt was Jungenhaftes braucht, nachdem er 36 Wochen ein Mädchen werden sollte und von mir zur Geburt eine Lila (was sonst?) Babydecke bekommen hat (siehe letzten Post).

Andrea only sells fabric she personally likes! Good thing we have the same taste! I know exactly what I'm gonna make of that beautiful Jelly Roll that she puts together herself!

Andrea hat nur Stoffe im Laden, die ihr persönlich gefallen. Gut das wir den gleichen Geschmack haben.  Ich weiss auch schon genau was ich aus der schönen Jelly Roll, die sie selbst zusammen stellt, machen werde!

long post after a long break... will keep it short

Hi everybody.

I will not go into detail about why I haven't posted for such a long time.

There is a lot on my to do list and a whole lot of new ideas waiting to conquer the universe!

Today, after this long time I will spoil you with pictures and less text.

Well, this is my sewing-room. Still under construction and all creative chaos...

While I was without my sewing machine for a few weeks, I needed to keep my hands busy and crocheted this granny square baby blanket

After 36 weeks of girlhood, the baby to receive the blanket turned out to be a boy... Well, hope he likes purple!

Right now the weather is pretty shitty over here. After a very springy time suddenly it got cold, wet and at our house, right behind the forest, we even got a little bit of snow! How frustrating! I am so tired of the wet and cold weather! I can't even get myself to the sewing machine. Well, all those wet boots and mud keeps me busy with housholding, too.

Before the ugly weather came back, I managed to take some nice pics of my "Framed" Quilt. It is a Design by Camille Roskelley from her Book Simply Retro

I love how the Quilt turned out! Thank you again Sternwerfer for giving me that cute fabric bundle. There was more in the bundle and I will actually make another one in pink :-) 

So back to swiping floors :-P

My Entry for the Pantone Quilt Challenge

Hello everybody!

As I have blogged about in my last post,

 I am participating at the Pantone Quilt Challenge with this quilt:

This is my Entry for "just the top" named "coralstar"

"Coralstar" was inspired by the colors of the sunrise at the caribbean sea. 

In my case that was Jan Thiel Beach in beautiful Curaçao, where I visited with my husband in 2006. 

It finishes 40"x40" and I am entering it in the category "just the top". 

Really only because I am afraid that I might not finish on time! 

For my Radiant Orchid Quilt, I chose the suggested Kona Thistle, because I am in a spring mood 

and the color reminded me of that particular sunset! I know it's not as radiantly blasting out 

of the quilt like in others, that I saw in the Flickr group, 

but I like the softness an purity of my color selection!

I will quilt "coralstar" soon - I already have a good picture of what I wanna do 

(thinking of waves in the Aqua and pointing out the stars with a dot to dot technique, 

or maybe try out this tutorial on circle quilting).

I will keep you posted on the progress and to you, wherever you are and whatever you're working on

Pantone Quilt Challenge 2014

Radiant Orchid? I wasn't so sure if I liked the color at all and the name is still not really suiting the tone - that is my opinion. But when I saw the post on flickr about the pantone quilt challenge and the kona suggestion for the Swatch (Thistle) my decision was: I need to make a quilt! My inspiration are the colors of a beautiful spring sunrise at the ocean side. This is how the design looked like in my eq7 document (the colors are much to bright in this pic):

I ordered my konas and here you go: That's my first block, finishing 20"! The quilt will be a Crib Size Quilt of 40"x40".

I'm not so sure if I will be able to finish the quilt on time so I might have to go for the category 

"just the top"... we will see

I'll keep you posted on my progress (working on the second block) and to you

First Finish of the Year

Hi there!

I would like to start with my latest finish:

posted about quite a lot and sat around for almost a year.

Thank you Lee for a wonderful Quiltalong!

and since I just fell in love with the colors and the design, it will stay at my home! :-)

Now after having the book "Simply Retro" by Camille Roskelley laying around for a while now, I have finally started two quilts: fresh and framed, both in smaller versions than in the book.

I have finished a Baby Quilt Version of "framed":

and I have finished all Blocks for a Single Bed Size Quilt for my little daughter of "fresh"

I just love the fabric of "fresh" by Aneela Hoey

I don't know exactly what line that is but I just love her cute little Designs! 

The fabrics for both the quilts were given to me by lovely sternwerfer* at one of our 

munich modern quilters meetings last year. Thank you so much! You made me 

(and two people who will get the quilts) very, very happy!

Back again

Hello out there! I'm back to quilting.

Life came between me and my hobby* and I am very sorry to not having posted for such a long long time. I did do some sewing and finished the top of my houndstooth quilt that I started at one of our munich modern quilters meetings.

I decided to show you my recent project though: The Bloom Bloom Pow Quilt from the Quiltalong by Lee of freshlypieced. When I made the quilt, I had a specific fabric in mind for the backing. Unfortunately, it wasn't available anymore, so I kinda waited and waited and so the top just lay around and became an UFO instead of a quilt :-(

After thinking about the backing for the houndstooth, I had the idea for the Bloom Backing.Yeah! Finally. So after all, this one will be my first finished quilt this year. Not quite yet, though.

This is the backing I chose.

I would like to take advantage of this WIP Wednesday, to show you how I put a border on this triangle quilt, that naturally finished in an angled border after piecing. I know, leaving the angles is kind of a trend, but I honestly don't like the look of it at all. So when I went into my quiltshop (thanks to the lady at Quilt et Textilkunst for her great advices) to buy the backing, The lady there told me that it would be such a shame to just cut the angles off, for all the work I had with them. SO TRUE!!!

Well, more work ahead, I put some y-seam corneres on, to get a strait quilt! Here you go, that's how I did it:

Remember this top? Seems like forever that I started the quiltalong by freshlypieced. It was so much fun!!

For the border, I made a template of one corner, which I transfered to freezerpaper and cut it on the fold

I used the "add a quarter ruler" to cut out my border pieces. I needed ten, plus 2 halfs

From left to right: I marked 1/4 from the corner on both, the top and the borderpiece and stabilized it with a pin

From the center out I sewed a quarter inch seam all the way down. I pinned the center again on the same hole and sew down the other side. Perfect! (honestly: not all of the pieces look like this one LOL)

There you go! All petals are safed

so that's my WIP right now! Quilting the Quilt. You can see my sketches of the planed quilting on the wall

I've got about 1/3 finished. Hope to show you the finished quilt next week

*I have been thinking a lot about if a Blog is the right place to talk about my privacy. After all, this is kind of a diary. And although this may not have to do anything with quilting, I have the urge to tell you that after suffering cancer my dad died December 5th last year, only 11 years after my Mom died of cancer.I had made him this quilt last year. Unfortunatly it will not comfort him anymore.
